Joie de Vivre jewelry

Purple and cobalt blue are the most intense of the cool colors; purple is associated with magic and royalty, and cobalt is linked with stillness, midnight and mystery. The passion of purple is more inner than outer; if red is active, then purple is introspective. Cobalt blue has strongest link with royalty, suggesting loyalty and piety. The following jewelry products all contain deep cool blue and purple elements.

Kiva necklace and bracelet

The four corners region of the Southwest is the home of Anasazi, pueblo dwellers who occupied the area over 2000 years ago. In places such as Chaco Canyon, special subterranean dwellings have been found which are inferred to be community gathering places. These dwellings are called kivas, and much later, the Hopi used the circular design in their above ground dwellings. Elements of the subterranean and community circle are found in this approximately 16" necklace and 7" bracelet in the form of turquoise and copper.

Lady in Waiting necklace

The pale pure hues of purple and gold in this fine faceted ametrine necklace will complement most skin tones, be one a dark or fair maiden. Electroform 14-kt gold fill nuggets are the accent in this 18" piece, and clasp is vermeil hook and eye. The colors are royal, but the saturation is perfect for a lady in waiting so as not to overshadow the bold presence of her Queen. Amethyst and citrine are both quartz crystals whose color originates from iron oxidation within the crystal; ametrine results from a temperature gradient as the crystal is forming.

On the Nile necklace

Feel like Egyptian royalty drifting down the calm waters of the Nile with this study in cobalt blue. This approximately 19" necklace features chunky lapis lazuli, known for its protective power. (Egyptians used it to aid eyesight; applying it as powder about the eyes to shield them from glare, as any modern day athletic warrior could attest.)

Queen Tiy necklace

She was grandmother to one of the most famous Egyptian pharohs, King Tutankhamun, and cousin to Tut's mother Nefertiti and the first woman pharoh, Hatshepsut. Queen Tiy was a strong leader and diplomat during her husband's reign, and a recent statue discovery suggests she could have been revered as a religious entity. Share some of her strength with this bold 18" necklace of lapis lazuli, malachite and gold.

Winter Twilight necklace

Perhaps winter evenings and nights are associated with midnight blues and purples more than summer because winter nights are longer and somehow more mysterious. Iolite is the perfect gemstone for winter night; depending how it's viewed, the stone is midnight blue or deep purple. Gemstones are woven through gleaming strands of glass beads. Let this 16" necklace be a gem of winter.
