The Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși concentrated on the theme of a bird in flight, such as emphasizing the upward thrust without wings or feathers in such creations as "Bird in Space," a marble sculpture he made in 1923 though he cast it in metal as well. That elegant elongation of form is found in the bronze pendant which is approximately 1 1/2," and it hangs with an oxidized silver oval frame on a 19" squared sterling silver snake chain with a lobster claw clasp. The darkened color of oxidized sterling silver occurs when the silver is brought in contact with certain chemicals, forming a layer of sulfide.
