Fall equinox is the time of equal day and night, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is neither
towards nor away from the sun. For those near the equator, the equinoxes have little meaning as
the apparent length of days changes little throughout the year. In the northern hemisphere,
the fall equinox is in September. This 19" necklace features a laser-cut heartwood heart
pendant and selenite oval pendant. Selenite is a pale, translucent
variety of the mineral gypsum forming in distinct structures; this pendant has the silky luster
of satin spar, a parallel, fibrous formation. The pendants hang from a thin, coiled copper tube with
an inner coated stainless steel cord for strength, and the necklace fastens with a copper hook and
eye clasp. The natural materials and warm colors are indicative of the golden but shortening days
as summer passes to winter and moonlight becomes more pronounced with the longer nights.
