Thankfully, we can sympathize with Emma Bovary - think of how we love stories of the rich and famous! royalty! - but without going to her extremes. This necklace is rather extravagant for everyday wear, but that is the purpose for such a necklace: to take a person out of the daily routine. The deep purple color might suggest amethyst but the stones are all fluorite, which has the widest color range of any mineral thanks to the variety of trace elements that can find a home in its cubic structure. Unfortunately, this structure leads to its perfect octahedral cleavage (easy fracture / breakage planes) so the stone is fragile compared with tourmaline, garnet or quartz. The sterling silver open cable chain gives it an adjustable length from 19" to 24".

  • SoftFlex heavy duty nylon-coated stainless steel cord (40 lb load test)

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners.

The fluorite gemstones are a relatively soft stone, and they may break or chip if dropped or handled roughly, so the recommendation is to keep this necklace out of the hands of kids. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

Not all jewelry - particularly beaded jewelry - work well with all necklines. The larger stones and mid length (19"-24") make this a good choice for crew necks, boatnecks, scoop necks and turtlenecks. It may work outside some collared shirts as well, but the size of stones and drape of the necklace could make such a pairing difficult. The number and size of the stones make this a heavier necklace.
