Imagine drawing sea-bound treasure from the depths of cool water, brushing aside accumulated sand and debris to see what has been found. Held aloft, the faceted labradorite still flashes with the blue-green iridescence of the sea and the high grade saltwater pearls gleam in the sunlight. Dark sapphire Swarovski crystal and rich 14kt gold-fill complete this ensemble of treasure-inspired luxury. The pearls used in this stunning necklace and bracelet are Chinese cultured saltwater pearls. Most pearls used in jewelry are cultured, meaning they are seeded with items inserted in the mollusks' shells to stimulate the growth of pearls; however, saltwater pearls are formed by oysters farmed in oceans and freshwater pearls are formed by mussels living in lakes or rivers. The nacre (luminous material of the shell) is thicker for freshwater pearls, but the radiance and size uniformity tends to be higher quality from saltwater pearls. The "gold standard" are the Japanese Akoya saltwater pearls, but Chinese saltwater pearls and even some freshwater pearls are approaching them in quality. The necklace takes a classic - the pearl necklace - and gives it a literal twist with labradorite and crystal to create a special jewelry set that will be a treasure for years to come.

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners.

Although the beading cord is plenty strong enough, the pearls should probably be kept out of reach of young hands. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.
