The lampwork beads at the center of this 19" necklace are works of art in
swirling color, like the intricate details of galaxies or nebulae in space telescope
images. The center beads handcrafted by Grace Lampwork Beads are flanked by Raku ceramic
square rondelles and glittering dichroic glass rondelles. These artisan items
give the necklace subtle nuance in color and sheen. Raku ceramic beads get their unique
colors and sheen from the Japanese method of removing hot pieces from the kiln before
they cool. The spacers include wood beads, delicate Japanese glass seedbeads, and
solid fine silver beads. The toggle is also borosilicate glass, a glass containing boron
trioxide that is resistant to thermal shocks and used in space applications for its low
thermal expansion coefficient.
