Lovely grey labradorite and rainbow moonstone are closer kindred than their names imply; they are
actually both labradorite feldspars. Moonstone proper is an orthoclase feldspar and labradorite is
a plagioclase feldspar; the difference lies in chemical composition and crystalline organization.
Moonstones are more on the alkali/potassium end of the feldspar spectrum and labradorite is more towards
the calcium side. Both can show terrific schiller effect of light scattering off thin layers within the
stones, but moonstone tends to show more of an overall glow
whereas labradorite and rainbow moonstone show rainbow flashes depending on viewing angle.
The two necklaces are 20" in length and can be worn together or separately. The rainbow moonstone
necklace is a simple pattern of high-quality rondelles interspaced with Delica glass seedbeads (famous
Japanese glass known for color and uniformity) and Czech fire-polish glass beads, and the labradorite necklace
features faceted teardrops between Hill Tribe silver curved tubes (famous Thai source for fine silver).
The necklaces may even be fastened together for one very long light-dark style necklace.
