The small peridot gemstone charm is just the right size to represent a leaf bud emerging
at an axil or tip of a stem. Peridot is the gemstone variety of the mineral olivine, which
can have structure with more iron (fayalite: Fe2SiO4) or magnesium (forsterite: Mg2SiO4).
Most peridot is on the magnesium end of the scale although the distinctive green color
results from small amounts of iron. Olivine is an abundant mineral with high heat tolerance,
enabling it to survive in meteorite samples. In the presence of water, however, olivine
readily transforms into serpentine, talc or magnetite. Sally Silica Tetrahedra is isolated
in peridot; the tetrahedra attach with other elements and not themselves. The thin
twisted link sterling silver chain is like a delicate stem from which the bud grows.
