Wear the colors of sunshine high in the mountains with this golden 22" double strand
necklace. According to Incan myth, the sun god Inti created the first Incan man, Manco Capac, and
the first Incan woman, Mamaoqlyo. The Incas emerged as a group in the 1200s and reached
their peak influence in the fifteenth century, inhabiting a large area covering Chile,
Peru, Ecuador, and parts of Argentina and Columbia. The arrival of Spanish explorers in 1526
brought war and disease, destroying their leaders within 50 years. This elegant necklace
features apatite gemstones, a calcium phosphate mineral whose name derives from the Greek
apate, meaning deceit, because it closely resembles other gemstones like aquamarine or citrine.
Unfortunately, it is not as hard as these other gemstones and chips more easily, making larger
gemstones problematic. The small faceted rounds in these strands are brilliantly colored and
relatively robust, thanks to their small size and light weight. The necklace fastens easily with a
14kt gold-fill magnetic clasp.
