Rich colors and textures in this 18" necklace reflect the possibilities of a mineral deposit. Volcanic activity and intense heat are the foundation for these creations: copper ore comes from metal-bearing fluids expelled from cooling magma or hot springs, and Raku ceramics use a quick firing process of placing clay pieces directly into a hot kiln only until the glaze melts. The copper nuggets are hollow beads with incredible texture, and the brushed patina copper rondelles show color from gold to magenta. The Raku square rondelles show typical iridescence and color that results from the rapid cracking cooling of the pottery outside the kiln. Wood and sterling silver beads finish out the design, and the necklace fastens easily with a large copper toggle clasp.
