bloodstone gemstones (the larger mottled oval beads) form the base of this dramatic
accessory with bold red-orange colored agate and cool new jade serpentine as the round
contrasts of color. In the first century, Greek philosophers wrote of bloodstone as a
preserver of health and protection against deception. It is common for bright red jasper
patches to be distributed in the dark fine-grained quartz. India was the ancient source for
the gemstone, from low-temperature, silica-rich waters percolating through cracks and
