The baby soft pale colors found in the brilliant faceted gemstones in these necklaces are indictative of the same mineral type: beryl. Beryls are beryllium aluminum silicates whose gem grade stones are better known as aquamarine (blue to blue-green stones), emerald (green stones), morganite (pink stones), and helidor (yellow stones). The gem grade stones are found most often in pegmatites (igenous rock regions forming large crystals); sky blue aquamarine or helidor result from traces of iron, morganite from trace elements of cesium or manganese, and emerald from trace amounts of chromium. Strands of aquamarine gemstone beads are common, but finding strands of morganite is more challenging.

The shorter 16" necklace is a beryl mix of smaller, "chubby" teardrops in aquamarine, helidor and morganite, and the longer 17.5" necklace is a morganite necklace with larger faceted teardrops. The shorter necklace with hook clasps was designed to connect to rings in the longer necklace and wrap around those morganite gemstones to create a thicker, sparkling necklace of charming pale hues. The morganite necklace features 8" of gemstones and 8" of sterling silver chain interspersed with freshwater pearls attached to a sweeping, elegant sterling silver hook & eye clasp. The beryl mix necklace features cloes to 16" of gemstones with a sterling silver hook clasp.

Cost: $86.00 USD aquamarine/beryl mix, $170.00 USD morganite, $216.00 USD for both

Care & cleaning: Beading cord may be kinked or broken through hard jerks or severed through prolonged exposure to rough or sharp edges; store necklace flat when not in use to prevent stretching or kinking cord. Clean with warm soapy water and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish appearing on silver.

The most vulnerable points in these necklaces are the sterling silver bead tips connecting the gemstone strands with the chain or clasp. Although somewhat strengthened as an alloy, sterling silver is still considered a soft material that can be bent or broken under sustained pressure, and the sterling silver bead tips are generally thin and delicate to be unobtrusive in the design. Therefore, these are often the points that can break with hard tugs and pulls. As with all beaded jewelry: do not let young toddlers chew on it.

These sparkling creations are small enough in scale to work well with casual and work attire in addition to evening wear. High to moderate necklines will look more balanced with the necklaces rather than deep ones.
