Summer in the Southwest generally means one thing: time to get out of the Southwest! The heat is intense, and we dream of exchanging shimmering heat waves for waves of another kind.

Additions this season are inspired by the ocean. Necklaces like Sea Chanty and Monodon Monoceros are explicitly sea related, and earrings like Bright Creatures feature my favorite cephalopod. This season also features gemstone drop earrings of all shapes and sizes and gorgeous pendants.

Ah, the waves....
The New Wave card package has 16 designs of breaking waves, that moment when the standing water rounds and crashes as it speeds towards shore. The Western Sea card package combines the beach and poetry in black and white images. The Scientific Method Spectacular contains a design for waves of another kind (Schroedinger wave equation).

The beach is implied in jewelry designs using pearls and shell, like in the Offset necklace, whose luminous freshwater rice pearls are offset by colorful Swarovski crystal and prehnite gemstone. Colored coral is another popular material in jewelry, like in the Timeless necklace and Four Corners jewelry set. The pearl & shell page has links for jewelry items categorized by sea-giving materials. Summer inspired the Ice Cream Cone earrings with sterling silver scoops heaped behind delicious strawberry quartz gemstone drops and The Green Hills enameled copper pendant necklace, with vibrant, rolling colors of long summer evenings.

Though gemstone pendants are typically in necklaces, like in the Impressions necklace with fantastic jasper and bronze elements, but earrings are the stars of this season's new products. There are sea-inspired designs, like the delightful bronze tentacles in the Bright Creatures earrings, but most designs feature beautiful gemstone pairs, like in The Keeper and Day Trip designs.

Travel can be anytime, but summer seems to be the most popular and convenient time for trips to scenic locations. Bracelets like Mo'orea and The Grand Canyon State can be a terrific tangible reminder of those travels, and card packages like Take a Hike and The World in Black and White can be a fun way to travel virtually or remember past travels.
